My nickname comes from my name, Fernando. I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and I was born in 78. I'm currently studying and working. I have a big passion for cinema (see the list of films I've seen below), some tv series and rock music in general. In this blog I write mainly about my useless thoughts, likes and dislikes and my pathetic life. Nothing very interesting, really!

Loneliness

I guess I've already complained about being lonely plenty of times here, haven't I?

And today I'm complaining again. It's weird how lonely I'm feeling at this exact moment. It's weird because I wasn't suposed to feel that way. I'm working a lot, I met new people, I have new friends. So why am I feeling that way? There's no proper answer, I'm afraid...

Even on msn, which is suposed to connect you with your network of friends around the entire globe, I don't have a single soul to talk to. All of my 57 contacts (yes, I have this little) are currently offline. :-/

So I can just browse the net, talk to myself or go to bed. I guess the last option is the best one. So, good night to you all.

Head messed up

A girl can ask a guy out without having second intentions, can't she?

A girl can insist in inviting this guy out (even when he always tries to find lame excuses for not going) without having second intentions, can't she?

This same girl can ask this same guy out the next day to go somewhere and just do nothing (as she said), without having second intentions, can't she?

And even when the guy keeps finding lame excuses, the girl invites him to her house because some other people would be there, and a little party with him would be fun. Could this all not have a second intention?

Can the same guy ask the same girl out on a random week day, to any given place to do simple things such as spend time together, have a cup of coffe and some ice-cream or chocolate? (the guy not being sure if he has second intentions or not)

Can the same girl give the same lame excuses (exactly the lame excuses the guy gave her previously) and STILL have second intentions? (noticed how I inverted the situation here?)

Can the girl say (joking or not) that the guy lives on her heart on a 3 people chat on msn (being the 2 of them and a common friend the members of the chat) without having second intentions?

This is how messed up my head is at the moment. Comments are apreciated in order to try to unmess it.

The Flu

I have the strangest way of having the flu.

First my throat bothers (it's not a proper sort of ache) me for a few days. Then it gets sore and I lose my voice for a couple of days. When the voice returns, I still keep talking with robot voice for a couple of days more and then, just then I start having all the known flu symptoms.

No matter what kind of medicine I take, they just don't make me feel any better. I just have to wait for the incubation period to pass. :-/

It sucks!

Wasted years?

I've been studying french for 4 or maybe 5 years and I've always found it very difficult. Everytime I struggle to read an article or to understand something on TV5 for example... Today I was in the tube, coming back home, when there was a french or canadian (who really cares?) couple next to me and they were speaking loud enough for me to realize how bad my french really is! Besides a few words here and there I wasn't able to understand a damn thing of what they were talking about. I wonder if I'll ever learn this bloody language!

On the mail

Look what I've got on the mail yesterday:

Helloween DVD

The show itself is amazing. Despite the changes in the band's formation in the past 3 or 4 years, they haven't los their 'touch'. In fact, they seem a lot happier on stage now. Andi is singing better than ever, don't know what he did to improve his skills, but he's indeed much better (technically speaking), because in terms of carisma, he still has lots of it and he has the entire crowd on the palm of his hand for the entire show.

As for the 'Roadie Movie', well, I found it a bit childish sometimes. Specially the parts where the guys were trying to be too funny, or at least funnier than normal, it seemed a bit forced. But the parts which they were interested in document their trip were really interesting. The interview is also great, they don't talk about the obvious things and it was very nice to see Andi talking about how tough it has been for him to live in Michael Kiske's shadow for all those years. This is the type of honesty the fans like and that's why I've always liked him. Andi Deris rocks! So does Helloween! The DVD is highly recommended! My rate: Concert 5/5 Extras 4/5

Here's a special treat for you:

On top

Although women on top is my favourite sexual position, this post is not about sex. In fact, this post is about my previous post.

A couple of days ago I was watching a debate on TV and there were 3 people talking about being famous and successful. They compared football players to musicians.

Acording to them (and it's indeed a fact), football players, such as Kaka, Ronaldo or Ronaldinho Gaucho for example, are on their top form very early, way before they complete the age of 30. They become rich and famous in a day or two. And as fast as their careers achieve the top, it also declines within the blink of an eye. No matter how good the player is.

In the other hand, musicians take more time to establish their carreer and also to establish themselves in the media. And here, we're talking about talented musicians and not artists like the Menudos, Spice Girls, the BackStreet Boys or all those other products of the media. They are just made to have their 15 minutes of fame in order to make huge profits to the record companies. No wonder why they disappear after a couple of years.

When you are a talented musician you are arrive at the top very easily. The difficult thing is to stay on top as the years pass. If you are indeed good, you have your ups and downs, which is pretty normal, but you eventually find your way up to the top again. And within the years you mature, your music gets better, and so does your performances. So, acording to them you reach your top around the age of 50 or more.

Then I thought about Maiden, and it's true. They reached the top very early, on their third album in 83. They stayed on top till the early 90s and then they had their ups and downs for a few years until they started to recover their status in the begining of the new millenium. Now we are in 2007 and they achieved things they never thought they would in less than 4 months. For a band who never had the media support (mtv, radio stations, etc), only the support from their loyal fans, I can say they're now at their highest position in their carreer. This year they were invited to play in Bangalore, India (the first big international metal band to put their feet in that country) in front of dozens of thousands of fans. They were also the first international band ever to play in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. And they were also given a prime time spot on British TV to play live at the Abbey Road studios (as you can see on my previous post).

We don't know when they're going to stop, hopefully not so soon. It's very fun to watch this 50 year old blokes rocking around with so much energy. I bet a lot of boy bands around envy the energy these old guys have. The recipe for success is easy: you must love what you do and you must be very good at it.

As Bruce said: "If you think what you do really matters and if you are really proud of what you do, why would you cock it all up? People say they entered in a band because they wanted to get girls. You NEVER should want to enter in a band because of girls. You enter a band because you want to play music! I never understood the people who say they entered a band because they wanted to do drugs. If you want to do drugs, do it somewhere else. Don't come and mess up with my world, because what we do here is really important to us and it's really important to loads of kids who come to see us..."

Iron Maiden at Abbey Road

Yes, Maiden got the honours to play live at the famous EMI's Abbey Road Studios. It was broadcast live to the UK on prime time by Channel 4 last Friday. Since I don't live on the UK, I had to wait a day so I could find the whole file to download on the net, and also to find them on youtube. Here they are: (do I need to tell you how great the performance was? Oh, btw, try to read what's written on Bruce's t-shirt! Very cool!!)
